Pixel Watch 5 to add six new features
The Pixel Watch 5 closely resembles its predecessor, featuring the same “Actua 360” circular display at 320 PPI with up to 3,000 nits of brightness and two size options: 41mm and 45mm. Google states the latest model includes six new features exclusive to the Pixel Watch 5, though many software updates this year will still reach the Pixel Watch 4.
New chip promises faster on-device AI
The device replaces last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 with the newer W5 Gen 2 Accelerated chip. According to Google, the upgrade offers 20% faster performance, 50% more RAM, and a 12% increase in CPU speed.
These changes support new on-device AI capabilities. One example is “Raise to Talk,” which activates Gemini when users lift their wrist. Responses appear quickly, even without an internet connection. The chip also enables Gemini’s proactive suggestions, offering context-aware prompts like flight details when requested.

GPS accuracy improves significantly
Google describes the Pixel Watch 5 as the most accurate smartwatch for GPS tracking, claiming twice the precision of earlier models in difficult environments. The company asserts it surpasses the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Garmin Fenix 8 Pro, though independent tests will confirm these results.
The watch uses Google Maps data to predict satellite signal paths through urban areas and adjusts for real-time weather conditions. This method aims to deliver more reliable route tracking for runners and cyclists.
Sleep tracking receives updates
Though the Pixel Watch 4 will gain many health features later this year, the newer model includes a 15% boost in sleep stage detection. It can pause audiobooks when the wearer falls asleep and provides a dedicated bedtime watch face.

Two new watch faces, Weave and Chronograph, join the collection, along with 11 additional complication styles.
New colors
The Pixel Watch 5 introduces three new colors: Fog, Olive, and Canyon. Fog and Olive come in both 41mm and 45mm sizes, while Canyon is only available in the 41mm model.
The Pixel Watch 5 is available for pre-order now, with shipments beginning later this month.
